Briggs & Stratton Targets New P4500 PowerSmart Series Inverter Generator At RV Users
Just in time for the summer recreational vehicle season, Briggs & Stratton has added a new model to its Briggs & Stratton PowerSmart Series of portable inverter generators with the P4500. Available now at select retailers, the P4500 packs a Briggs & Stratton 224cc engine and provides 4,500 starting watts and 3,700 running watts power. The PowerSmart Series overall is notably designed for outdoor recreation applications where a “reliable and quiet power source is expected.”
Quiet Down
Weighing 115 pounds (52 kilograms) and measuring 25.5 inches (64.7 centimeters) long, 17.6 inches (44.7 centimeters) wide, and 20.3 inches (51.6 centimeters) high, the P4500 integrates Briggs & Stratton’s Quiet Power Technology, which auto-adjusts engine speed to reduce noise, fuel usage, and emissions.
Michael Fritz, Briggs & Stratton senior global product manager for portable power, explained that excessive noise and fuel consumption are two things “RV travelers told us they’re not happy with” when it comes to current onboard generators. Those same users, Fritz said, “told us that they are impressed by the quietness of the P4500, which runs 60% quieter than a standard generator.” The P4500 also supports a 16-hour runtime (at a quarter load).
Besides push-button electric and recoil starting, the P4500 provides a telescoping handle for easier transport, non-flattening wheels, and a protective hard-shell cover that guards the generator from dirt and debris. A multifunction display provides access to power, fuel level, and run-time monitoring, while four household 120-volt, one 120-volt 30-amp RV, and two USB outlets provide power-connectivity options.
Combatting CO
RV enthusiasts will also appreciate the P4500’s inclusion of Briggs & Stratton’s patent-pending CO Guard Carbon Monoxide Shutdown technology that shuts the generator down if detecting harmful levels of carbon monoxide in the generator's operating area. In addition to an LED on the unit warning users about the shutdown trigger, the technology prevents operators from continuing with normal power until CO Guard’s sensor determines CO levels are safe again.
