Honda Showing Inverter Generators At Overland Expo West Show
Honda Power Equipment is displaying a collection of its EU and EG Series generators to the Overland Expo West trade show this weekend. The camping and outdoor vehicle expo runs May 17 to 19 in Flagstaff, Arizona.
All of the generators in the Honda booth are also inverters able to provide stable, clean power for sensitive computers and electronics. That’s an important feature if you’re bringing along a laptop or planning to watch a movie in the evening.
EU Series Generators
Four of the five gen sets Honda is highlighting are EU models. Using special cables, each can run in parallel with a second unit of the same or similar type to provide double the power for your RV, tailgate party, or home backup.
EU generators can also charge a car battery using optional cabling. Units in this product line come with the Oil Alert feature, which automatically shuts off the engine if its oil runs too low, and Eco Throttle, which runs the engine just fast enough to supply the needs of the load.
The Honda EU1000i is a lightweight, compact 120-volt model rated at 1,000 watts of power. It can run for up to 7.1 hours on a single tank of gas at 1/4 load, or for 3.2 hours at its full rated load. It’s quieter than a normal conversation, Honda says, at just 42 to 50 dBa, and it weighs less than 29 pounds (13 kilograms). The company recommends it for TVs, lights, fans, and small power tools. It has a 2-year residential warranty.
Next up the power scale is Honda’s bestselling Honda EU2200i. This 2,200-watt generator, and the other EU Series models mentioned below, all have a 3-year warranty for both residential and commercial use. The manufacturer says that it’s stout enough to power not only appliances, tools, fans, microwaves, TVs, DVDs, satellite equipment, and coffee pots, but even small AC units, refrigerators, hair dryers, and electric heaters.
The EU2200i is quiet at 48 to 57 dBA and light in weight at 46.5 pounds (21.1 kilograms). It can run for 3.2 hours (rated load) to 8.1 hours (1/4 load) per tank of gas. Its EU2200i Companion edition, also making an appearance at Overland Expo West, is similar but comes with both 20A and 30A outlets for RV or trailer power.
Rounding out the EU contingent is the Honda EU3000i Handi, a wheeled gen set with a swing-up handle. It’s relatively light for a 3,000-watt generator at 78 pounds (35.4 kilograms), and yet it has enough oomph to start up even RV AC units of up to 13,500 BTUs.
The compact Handi’s closed, sound-dampening cabinet keeps operation quiet at 52 to 58 dB(A). A tank of fuel will last it 3.6 hours (rated load) to 7.7 hours (1/4 load).
An EG Model
Finally, Honda will also display its open-frame Honda EG2800i, which has designated places for you to pick it up and tie it down when it’s time to travel. It can run for half a day (12.1 hours) without a refill under a light load, or 5.1 hours when producing its 2,800 rated watts.
The 66.6-pound (30.2-kilogram) unit has two 20A receptacles and one 30A with a locking plug style. Each outlet has individual circuit protection. Portable, yet suitable for home backup power, the full-frame EG2800i generates 62 to 67 dBa of noise. Its warranty is 3 years for residential use but only 1 year for commercial applications.
More From Honda
Besides generators, Honda is also showing an engine-powered campsite water pump at Overland Expo, as well as a tent-topped Passport and Ridgeline, a Talon UTV, and some motorbikes.
