Cummins Announces New Enclosures for 1- To 2-MW Natural Gas Generators
Cummins has launched new standard enclosures for its natural gas generators in the U.S. market. They support Cummins models in 1,000- to 2,000-kilowatt power nodes. The new enclosures are optimized for either standby and peaking applications or for combined heat and power (CHP) with continuous-duty heat recovery. The manufacturer recommends them for use at hospitals, data centers, commercial buildings, and waste water treatment plants.
“Cummins is releasing high-quality, cost-effective, plug-and-play standard gas generator enclosure solutions which enable shorter production lead times, fast installations, and improved serviceability,” says Cummins’ North America gas business general manager, Lucio Kroll. “With easy-to-install components, built-in safety features, and remote-monitoring capabilities, customers can be assured that their sites will operate reliably without incurring additional maintenance, labor, and installation costs.”
Plug & Play Solutions
The new Cummins enclosures come as fully integrated packages with piping, cooling, and wiring systems. Setup is designed to be easy with few power requirements during installation. The enclosures are available with sound attenuation ratings of 70 or 85 decibels (adjusted) at a distance of 23 feet (7 meters).
The enclosures’ variable-speed fans play a role in keeping the generator cool without excess power consumption. Cummins makes the enclosures with either pad- or roof-mounted radiators for additional flexibility. The manufacturer embedded safety systems into the units to provide alerts such as shutdown notifications and balance of plant (BoP) alarms regarding support equipment.
The enclosures intended for standby/peaking applications are compatible with Cummins’ 1,000- to 1,350-kW QSK60G series, 1,600- to 2,000-kW HSK78G series, and 1,750-to 2,000-kW QSV91G series generators. The units designed for CHP applications, on the other hand, can offer up to 83.4% of total system efficiency for a 1,100-kW Cummins QSK60G series genset or 88.6% for a 2,000-kW HSK78G series unit. Once installed and operational, Cummins says, the enclosed systems can operate seamlessly with other generators.
