Caterpillar’s new 60-Hz XQ1140 mobile power module provides up to 1,000 electric kilowatts (1,250 kilovolt-amperes) of temporary standby power or 910 ekW (1,136 kVA) of prime power. The 120- to 600-volt power module includes two diesel generator sets that can be paralleled to tackle larger loads, operated independently to support different loads and voltages, or set to N+1 redundancy backup mode. The Tier 4 Final power unit can be rented for use at hospitals, utilities, agricultural applications, mines, and more.

“Flexibility and fast mobility are absolutely essential for mobile power units,” says Caterpillar Rental Power General Manager Tom Caldwell. “The innovative design of the Cat XQ1140 power module delivers reliability, redundancy, efficiency, and convenience in a light and maneuverable package with low weight and a 40-foot length.”

    Quiet, Flexible Operation

The Cat XQ1140 is housed in a sound-attenuated ISO high cube container. Its noise level during operation is a mere 76 dBA at 23 feet (7 meters) at 75% of a prime load. Along with the trailer, the unit weighs about 58,000 lbs (26,300 kilograms).

Each of the XQ1140’s two gensets has its own EMCP 4.4 control that supports manual and automatic paralleling. Operators can control the power module via an external color touchscreen. This display panel facilitates alarm acknowledgements, remote start, breaker operation, and overall monitoring of the gensets. The XQ1140 also supports Cat Connect remote monitoring.

    Twin Cats

The XQ1140’s twin-pack design comprises two Cat C18 ACERT generator sets. Their engines utilize diesel exhaust fluid (DEF) and the Cat Clean Emissions Module for aftertreatment of their exhaust.

The XQ1140 relies on two 630-gallon (2,384-liter) diesel tanks that are connected by a fuel equalization system. Cat says that the fuel and DEF tanks can keep the unit running for up to 24 hours at 75% load. The XQ1140 consumes 66.4 gallons (251.3 L) per hour under 100% prime load and 71.8 gal/hr (271.8 L/hr) at 100% standby load. All diesel and DEF fills for both motors are located on the curb side.

Find The Right Cat Generator Set

The XQ1140 is available for rent from your local Cat dealer.
