Caterpillar Unveils New EPA-Certified 1.5-Megawatt G3516 Natural Gas Generator
Caterpillar recently launched the new Cat G3516 Fast Response generator set, a 1.5-megawatt unit that runs on natural gas. The new genset can accept a load from a cold start in as little as 6.5 to 7.5 seconds, the manufacturer says. The G3516 is currently available in a 60-hertz version in North America.
“Natural-gas generator sets are becoming increasingly attractive standby power options as customers focus on their environmental, social, and governance objectives,” says Caterpillar Electric Power Division Product Manager Brian George. “By adding the G3516 to our portfolio of Fast Response natural-gas generator sets, we are making it easier for customers to configure a power solution that delivers the superior performance required for mission-critical applications while reducing their carbon footprints.”
Caterpillar’s G3516
The Cat G3516 Fast Response is EPA-certified for use in emergency and non-emergency applications. It can accept and recover from a 100% block load. The genset is compatible with NFPA 110 Level 1 Type 10 and is UL 2200 listed. Cat Power offers the G3516 with NOx reduction technologies that can lower levels of the gas to 0.5 grams per brake horsepower-hour with no aftertreatment system.
The new G3516 comes with Caterpillar’s EMCP 4 control system; the optional EMCP 4.4 allows for parallel operation with other gas or diesel generators. The genset is Ethernet-equipped and can integrate with building management systems. It comes with a gas train, a simplified wiring system, and radiators mounted on the package. Cat recommends the G3516 for standby power, peak shaving, or load management in a broad variety of applications.
