Briggs & Stratton has launched a new line of 13 to 26-kilowatt residential standby generator sets called the PowerProtect model group. The PowerProtect model group includes new and improved features that deliver maximum power and value.

“Being first to market with a 26-kW home standby generator in 2021, we quickly pivoted resources to reinvigorate the rest of our PowerProtect line,” said Tom Rugg, Briggs & Stratton Energy Solutions SVP and President. “We know buying a generator is a significant investment and our goal is to provide the best product and service to our customers.”

Each PowerProtect backup generator has NGMax technology to extract maximum power from natural gas. All PowerProtect models can also run on more energy-dense liquid propane (LP).

    Eco-Cise: 16 Seconds A Week

Each model features an air-cooled Briggs & Stratton Vanguard commercial-grade engine. These engines perform a 16-second Eco-Cise smart weekly self-test. This is much quicker than the exercise cycles of 5 to 20minutes per week found in some competing models.

Briggs & Stratton says the new features help PowerProtect models provide the greatest value and lowest cost per kilowatt on natural gas. The product line has a 6-year warranty that includes all labor, parts, and technician travel with no out-of-pocket costs for the owner.

    New PowerProtect Generator Models

The new PowerProtect gensets come in 13-kW, 18-kW, 22-kW, and 26-kW models. Briggs & Stratton says its new PowerProtect 13-kW model can power large appliances with 37 kilovolt-amperes of motor starting power.

Users can add an optional Symphony Choice Power Management System to the generator’s Automatic Transfer System (ATS). This allows homeowners to use a smaller generators by focusing power to critical and selected appliances. The PowerProtect 13-kW features a footprint 39% smaller than other standby residential generators to fit into small areas.

The PowerProtect 18-kW and 22-kW generators have certification for both non-emergency and emergency use. This lets homeowners use them to generate everyday power and receive incentives from their power company's demand response program. Briggs & Stratton says the 22-kW generator can easily bring large appliances online with 45 kVA of motor starting power.

The company’s first PowerProtect generator was the 26-kW model, introduced in 2021. Briggs and Stratton says the model is still the most powerful air-cooled home standby generator on the market. The model’s 41-kVA of motor starting power can return power to a normal level for an entire home. This even includes homes with multiple air conditioners or a pool.
