Briggs & Stratton Energy Solutions recently introduced its new SimpliPHI 6.6 home battery system, which is designed to provide backup during power outages and can be used as an alternative to a standby generator. The SimpliPHI 6.6 is a lithium ferro phosphate (LFP) battery system with 6.65 kilowatt-hours of energy that can be installed in stacks of one to three. The system can be scaled to six stacks of three batteries that can deliver 119.7 kWh with a maximum continuous power of 84 kilowatts for those who need increased power.

    Ample Amps

A single-battery SimpliPHI 6.6 system can meet most household needs for over 10 hours of power at 50% backup load (of an average continuous load of 1.23 kW), far exceeding the average 5.5-hour duration of the average power outage in the U.S.

    Compact & Durable

Each LFP battery is 17.3 inches tall by 28.6 in. wide by 6.7 in. deep (44 by 72.6 by 17 centimeters) and can perform over 6,000 cycles at 80% depth of discharge (DoD) with a 75% end-of-life capacity. Its discharge rate of .7C to 1C creates a higher storage capacity per hour. The battery system is compatible with the SimpliPHI 6kW hybrid inverter, the Sol-Ark8K, 12K and 15K inverters, and other lithium-supporting inverters.

    More Than A Backup

Aside from backup in an outage, the SimpliPHI battery system can also be used during peak utility rate times or demand response programs to reduce utility bills. It can be used with solar energy or a generator to supply off-grid power.

Briggs & Stratton says SimpliPHI also offers installation flexibility, as homeowners can install it indoors or outdoors without additional cabinets. Installers can place the system on the ground or mount it to a wall in a garage, shed, basement, or exterior wall. The compact system with one to three batteries per stack fits in small places, making it more accessible in many homes.

    How It Works

Each battery stack has a ground or wall base with batteries on top one by one and is capped by a battery controller with lights to indicate available power. Homeowners can monitor and manage the system through the EnergyTrak mobile app.

“We’re breaking new ground with the SimpliPHI 6.6 battery and are continuing to innovate and help homeowners achieve energy resilience and independence,” says Tom Rugg, SVP and president at Briggs & Stratton Energy Solutions. “We’re also focused on affordability. The SimpliPHI 6.6 battery is 25% less expensive than our competitors, and that is before tax incentives.”
